Many Children Have Been Left Behind

I agree that the No Child Left Behind act has caused more problems than it has fixed. However the problem is not that it requires teaches to teach for the test but because the funding that it gives is actually less than states need to pay for the tests that they are required to give. This means that the states have to waste money on a required test rather than choose what is best for their state. This is a violation of states’ rights almost.

I think a much better solution would have been to give individual school districts a reason to improve their own students long term learning and performance on tests such as the SAT rather than state tests. Or the money may have better been spent giving aid to college students who want to learn.

In the end we should just test making improvements and if they don’t work we should repeal them. And although America is great at innovation we should also look at other countries education system because law makers may have some things to learn as well.

TOP 5 Ways to Improve the U.S. Government

The first thing that the US government needs to do is lower its spending and waste. Although I love learning about space travels this is not a time when we should waste our time on space exploration so start by getting rid of NASA.

The next thing we need to do, which will help with the wasteful spending, is get out of other countries business. Defense spending should be spent for just that: defense. And not defense of other countries but defense of America. Then we need to do is reform taxes. We need more progressive income and property taxes so that the rich help the poor. And we need to lower the general sales tax so that consumer spending can bounce back and end the recession.

After those three things are accomplished we need to switch our health care over to a single payer system like the rest of the developed world is using because it is much more efficient and will help again with the wastefulness I mentioned in my first improvement. And to insure that the single payer health care system is designed so that it is best for the people and not the corporations we need to get rid of all the health industry lobbyists in Washington once and for all.

With these five improvements everyone will be happier and many smaller problems will be solved in the process.

RE: Almost Bailed-Out...

In response to this story on The Gov Spot.

I like this topic because I haven’t heard about the bail out of the auto industry in a while and it is still an important issue. It also makes me glad that the car companies are planning on paying back the money they were given by the government. This may be a sign that we are back on the way to a surplus budget like we had in the 90’s. Yet one can only hope since the jobs are still far in the negative zone compared to a few years ago.

Additionally, although I support Obama and his policies I think that a third party opinion is necessary to show that the effort is working. Also I think it would have been helpful to have a better explanation or at least prediction of what would have happened had the Obama administration not undertaken the bail out program. And then it is also important to consider if the fall of the auto industry is just part of fair capitalism since other countries make better cars or an unhealthy occurrence that would cause widespread in markets that are now still functioning properly an healthy economically.

Finally, I like your use of quotes and the name of your blog.
